Take number 1 plug out and place a screwdriver in the plug hole, turn the engine very slowly until the screwdriver is at its highest point then check if your marks line up.
According to my timing belt book the crank hole should be at 11 o clock.

11 O-clock? He can't wait that long!

Sorry.

Umm, this is coming to bits for mysterious coolant loss right? Look at the second picture again, is that the water pump pulley above the crank one?

yes i initialy striped it because of coolant loss over last 2 or 3 weeks , yep the water pump is shot but also as suspected gasket is totaly shot between cylinders 2 and 3 from water jacket to cylinder , when i lifted head off cylinder 2 and 3 have about 2 inches of water in despite me pulling drain plug from radiator at 8 am few hours before i started so i wasent layed in water ,.

to jasper or anyone else familliar with the timing , the crank pully lock off hole should lign up with 2 small castings behind the pulley in theory an 8 mm bolt or simmilar fits through the pulley and between the castings ( at 11 oclock in relation to cylinders being 12 oclock ) , as in my photos the cams are locked off but the crank just would not lign up correctly , i have marked the pulley in several places to re fit it where it was as the car run sweet an cam belt is as new so its definatly not moved , anyway back to question , " can i now set number 1 to tdc before re fitting new cam belt " or would ya just re fit everything as per marks made on pulley ?.

just had a quick look at the head and number 1 cylinder exhaust valves are fully open , does this mean crank is 180% out , would ya just re fit to marks on pulley or can someone tell me how to set cams and crank up correctly " pretty please "

If you are absolutely certain that the marks were correct when you marked and stripped it (including cams) then I would use those marks.
Was the number one piston right at the top when you pulled off the head with those marks?

all 4 pistons are centre of bores so number 1 was not on tdc when i took head off , do cams need a full turn then put number 1 on tdc ?.

If that is where your marks are then you best use those marks for timing.
Before you refit the cam cover and after you have fitted the cam belt, put a screwdriver in number one plug hole and turn the engine slowly until the screwdriver is at its highest point then check the cam shafts for the front or rear inlet and exhaust valves are about to open and close at the same time, move the crank backwards and forwards in a rocking motion, you will see what I mean, if that is the case then the timing is correct, make sure that you turn the engine by hand a couple of turns so that there isn't any interference.

just a quick update , 90% of engine re built now , new water pump didnt arive till 3pm and it went dark before i got to finish job , the new cam belt was mission to get on but it all worked out spot on rotated engine by crank pulley about 6 times and my marks ligned up spot on again so everything is re built now , just for inlet manifold to bolt up and cam covers to re fit , and a nightmare of an exhaust bolt to tighten up , i recon about hours work in morning before i try fire it up ;-) , fingers crossed .
