anyone know
if u can dispense with the tensioner the one on a spring and just use the eccentric tensioner
with some other kind of belt and possibly dispense with aircon

this seems to be a poor design with the spring and damper mine was slightly out align and it chewed the belt up
on inspection the pulley shaft boss had the grooves cut into it from the needle bearings meaning it lentover to oine side
thus the belt wanted to go off.

and also the spring --fixing hole where the shaft goes in is also elongated ..needs a new spring damper assembly

I had to have this job done when I first got my 2.1. Not a cheap job, the bit with the elongated bolt is a main dealer only part, and from Peugeot it cma ein at about £150 IIRC. I got the cam belt and water pump done at the same time and it cost me about £600 for all the labour and all the parts.

i changed this myself, got the parts from GSF, cost approx £100 all in, for both parts of the tensioner, and a new belt.

took around an hour and a half and has not chewed a belt since, was done around 25,000 miles ago.

ive just had the same problem, going round a bend and steering locked up, opened the bonnet and the aux belt had slid off a chewed up round every possible pulley because the centre bolt bearing on the tensioner was bent, bought a new tensioner and belt, nightmare to remove the old tensioner. did about 150 miles today and the edge of the belts looked scored again. it looks like the pulley on the tensioner sits too far to over from the block and is out of alignment with everything else, any ideas why this is?
