What the deal with this item.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... K:MEWAX:IT

Had my eye on it for a while yet im thinking how does he know its the filter that need changing if the engine management light is on.

Is it a dealer only job to replace, if so anyone any ideas on a rough price?

Id love to get the car providing the fix isnt too costly and also the sale price would have to reflect the repair bill.

Any input greatly appreciated as im not familiar with these new fap systems.

Also peugeot have told me the cambelt needs changing at 96k miles and will cost over 500 quid.

And is it just me or does the pattern of bidders look a little suspect, all similar to r***y type users?

thanks, Paul

Very Rare 2.2L Diesel 136BHP

The seller might have had it diagnosed but it's safer to assume it could be anything.

If it is the FAP then I think you'll find your answer if you have a quick search on here but you're looking at about 18 quid for the interface and a little work with a hammer & chisel

It looks ok in the pics tho, apart from tyres that look too small and possibly a different colour tailgate.

The bids do look a bit odd to me but I'm no expert.

A quick search on Autotrader brings up 5 - from 700 for one with cloth and intergalactic mileage to one at a dealer's for 2,500 (which seems amazingly cheap to me here but from a UK dealer will be overpriced) so I reckon this car should be worth about 2k max as a goer (price stands at 1,310 as I post). Given that the fault could be more serious I suppose if I had the cash spare and was dead keen on the colour or something I'd stick 1500 in the box, otherwise pffft, forget it. Remember, never gamble with money you can't afford to loose...

The 2 SRi 2.2HDis that were on with similar faults recently went for £1250 & £1000 with lower mileage & a rarity value to boot.

Nothing suspicious in the bidders names, but I do find it a bit suspect that it has hit £1300 while there's still 2 days to run. I also wouldn't expect it to be too well looked after from the amount of things he states he's "too lazy" to do.

I asked him if he'd had a quote from Peugeot for changing the FAP, topping up the Eolys & resetting the counters etc., (which is typically £600 - £700) & he replied his local gagage quoted £300. Needless to say he didn't add this enquiry to the listing.

As Steve says, you can bash the FAP element out FOC if you don't mind rolling your sleeves up, or get an exhaust place to do it for typically £20 - £30. Next you need a Galletto 1260 or similar interface to download a modified ecu file, (which I can help you with) & Robert's yer muvver's bruv.

Might be possible to tweak to 180 bhp while you're at it. 8)

I think, no I pretty much know, that there's gonna be a whole load of 2.2HDi's being cast off el'cheapo due to poorly diagnosed and scarily priced 'repairs' needed.

Take your pick eh? 8)

If I had a 2.2'er I would DEFINITELY be tapping up Doggy for a hand with some 'modifications' :supafrisk:

hmmm i was thinking 1500 max too as its also coming up very soon for a cambelt change.

im all up for a bit of elbow grease but i may be tempted to just find another 2.0 hdi and get a remap as no fap system to worry about.

first time i messaged him i got a short reply, when asking specifics he has not yet replied 2 days later

just had a reply, hes hoping to get 2500... lol. Anyway this is the email i got aswell:

Hi There,

The particulate filter is a common part that needs replacing, Any gargae can do it. I would personal not take it to the peugeot garage as they charge a fortune.

The cambelt was done at 78,000

Regards

Jo

if service history can back this belt change up then good good. but can any garage change teh filter, how does the fault light go out?

2 and a half for a car he can't be bothered to fix? I think the 1,310 is pushing it :?

I guess the fault can be cleared by a garage's code reader, it only needs PP to change stuff.

Probably -IF it only needs the fault cleared. Trouble is these mainitain a number of FAP / Eolys / regens records which need setting back to zero and an initialisation sequence, or the fault will just keep coming back.

(Unless you take a large, virtual sledgehammer to it). 8)

Gah! I forgot about resetting counters an' all that guff  Look on the plus side though, it conclusively proves the seller is full of crap.

Let's hope it turns out to be an easy fix for whoever bought it :?

A D9 2.2 turbo? I suppose it could be a 2.2 with a turbo bolted on

mmmm £2K - Way over what I would have bid for a motor that has been diagnosed with a wet finger by a lazy owner. If the new owner takes it the stealers its got to be another £700 to get it sorted (if it is only the FAP). Just hope they are competant DIYers with the right gizmos.
It wont be long before it gets put back on Ebay ....

No just Ebay's crappy autofill - always puts SRis up as turbos.
