I have a 2.1 Diesel 406 Estate Executive with 175000 mls on the clock- The clutch peddle went to the floor yesterday and after several checks the hydralic clutch reliease system seems to be fine with no leaks. Lond story short - My mechanic diagnosed that the clutch is gone - But his Quiery is that with the car on axial stands and the car in gear - When trying to rotate the wheel, it seems very tight (as if a limited slip diff is fitted or a binding brake ???) He says that he has never come accross this before.!!
( The brakes are free and not binding!!)
1. WHATS WRONG ???
2. IS THERE A LIMITED SLIP DIFF FITTED ??
3. IS THIS NORMAL FOR THIS CAR ??
NB. (In 2007 the car was caught in the floods and the Gearbox oil was drained and fresh fitted)

HELP - AM I WAISTING MY TIME HAVING A CLUTCH FITTED?

I haven't felt it myself - but I believe they spin freely

Yeah, what's it like in neutral? If all is well in neutral, then there isn't a diff problem.
Don't forget the resistance from the engine compression. This would make the wheels hard to turn.

With the car in gear and then turning the wheel - the oposite wheel shood spin in the opposite direction with out too much resistance ??
