long story short, car was fine got to the end of the road and it just cut out (petrol light flickered just before then turned off). went home and put half a can of petrol in it and it eventually started for about 30 seconds then cut out so got a mate to drop a fiver off in a jerry can. put it in and it started and idled then drove round the corner to hes and it chugged and wouldnt start again

. fuel pump dont prime when on 2nd click but we got it started a few times by pumping the throttle now nothing atall! ive got spark and when i take a fuel line off it'll squirt out everywhere.... am i just dumb and need to put another couple cans of petrol in (its a 1989 205 gti so fuel gauge is probably lying saying its got an 8th of a tank in it) or might it be crank sensor?? could be that??
sorry but if anybody wants to ring me my numbers 07816781327

Considering you say it starts when you put more petrol in, my guess would be it's out of petrol

I thought that it spraying petrol out everywhere when he disconnected a fuel line meant it had some

Oh ffs

Ok, then let's focus on the flames

What's that about then? Possible duff coil or could it be a duff injector (showing my ignorance now

) is it possible for one to stick open? Or don't they work like that?

right before it used to start then just naturally turn off when it got hot. i put the new sensor on and it cut out and didnt want to start after about 4 - 5 mins idling so i thought sod it... went back out a few mins later and it started up so i went for a drive (it was idling so much better and revs wernt floaating..) ive been for a 20 min drive fast and slow and been at traffic lights and traffic and filled up with petrol now it starts and stops and idles fine :S maybe it needed time to reconise the new sensor?
Fingers crossed its fine now, got a half hour drive tomorrow up the a130 so hopefully it holds out.... i;ll update everyone tomorrow lol... than ks for the help guys

Strange

Ah well, don't argue with it

I'm not sure if they have the sort of ecu that learns, perhaps it's been fighting past the failing sensor for a while and a new one completely stumped it.
Good luck with it tomorrow!
