my 90bhp hdi has been returning very poor mpg as of late, it runs fine just as well as it did new, just burning alot more fuel this things worse than my mk2 golf gti which is kinda defeating the purpose oh having a diesel,as i said runs exceptionally well even the coldest morning fires straight over dnt even let the plug light go out first bang starts is this maybe an egr valve related issue??????

Mines not as good as it shouid be either on fuel at the moment So your not alone,
im Getting around 60miles per Every £10 round town driven smoothly,

on a run im getting a good 46 -50mpg at a steady 70 ish,

iput it down too all this cold weather with it taking longer for it to warm up and with me gaving it a bit of help on the revs in a morning to get the heater too blow out some warmth,

iv been experiancing this since before the cold weather set in 130 miles to 25 litres of fuel

it might just be due for a service mate,
ive been told with mine that it Might be doing less to the mpg because the fuel filter and air filter is over-due for a change,
ithink its done around 30.000 miles since theyve been changed,

30.000 miles! well there's your awnser then lol

i change my oil every 6k and oil and all filters every 12k, i have serviced the taxi's i work on like this since i took over the servicing after the warrenty's had expired and those have lasted in excess of 500k and still going strong, and i dont think anyone would expect a lauguna to last anywhere near that long

i change everything every 6 months (everytime i tax the car)

oil , all filters, gearbox oil,

only costs around £15 for oil (total quartz 7000)
£15 for oil, air, fuel filter
£9 for pollan filter
and £10 for gear oil

at that price it isnt worth not doing it

a friend has a golf TDi 170 and he pays more just for his fuel and air filter alone

I blame the cold weather and the fact i put on the ac, demister, heater, and heated seats and drive like my hair is on fire i did see a dip in fuel economy during the cold spell, but wouldnt mind taking a look at the MAF and inlet manifold to clear out gunk but havent been shown any descriptive talk or pictures showing how to do it.

Are you measuring by brim-to-brim filling?
If not then your measurements are inaccurate! And don't trust the trip computer (its French, remember).

If you work it hard then it will drink. You have to drive how it wants for it to reward you.

heres the thing, if you go onto autotrader and look at the mpg figures for each car, are they all bollocks?

Actually I've found 406 trip computers to be absolutely bang on

i dont, and never have found any cars trip computer to be much good.

news on fuel consumption my uncles golf had a big dip in economy, but apparently fuel companies put stuff in diesel to stop it freezing but it makes the car sorer to run.

I can vouch for the additives making a big difference in consumption, here we have winter fuel from november through till march in varying grades and blends, peaking in late january early february and its common knowledge that with the winter cold running enrichment most cars do now and the winter fuels your consumption can be almost doubled

The Disco is a basic tool and the 300tdi engine in it isnt the most technical thing but even that has been affected by the cold weather, count yourselves lucky guys im down to about 23-24 mpg when it is around -10 at -20 i am lucky to be getting anywhere near 20mpg at all

wow thats low, the hilux dipped down to 18 in the cold. The only machine that didnt show any effects was the crap polo sdi.

I've been keeping tabs on my 406 2.0(90) HDI for several years now with a spreadsheet on my comp. Average 48mpg which includes lots of town driving, towing and motorway thrashing. Suspect about 52 for long non-thrash runs.
