Fix or scrap??

Post by keys84 »

Right
Im at a complete loss as to what to do with this car
fitted a new crank position sensor
and a new pump
which got the car running

but i still have this awful hesitation
while driving it just misses and my head almost hits the windscreen

i have no idea what is up i have tried to reset the ecu which helped a bit
but something (electrical??)
is still up - possible ecu problem??

have just spent £90
in parts and am loathed to spend any more really
unless i know it will fix it

thinking i will take the parts off i have put on and a few others then scrap it
does anybody have any ideas before i do that??

thanks for your help and time as always

changed the fuel filter???
camshaft senosr?
blocked cat?

there's 3 for u to start with, although some more detail is needed if you could add any other symtoms you can think off
d9 hdi 90 rapier estate

"Understeer" is when you hit the fence with the front of the car.
"Oversteer" is when you hit the fence with the rear of the car.
"Horsepower" is how fast you hit the fence.
"Torque" is how far you take the fence with you.

had a service a week b4 all the problems so all filters changed new oil + plugs

the car is idling ok now
but under load needs more revs than it should
it is occasionally slower to start
seems to be worse the warmer it gets

stutters under mild- medium throttle

seems the throttle has to be at just the right revs then it runs without missing or spluttering
has also had a new lamba sensor in last year

just cracked the ecu open to dr it out
no signs of visible moisture
left on rad for an hour - now sealed with a silica sachet inside to rule out moisture

also i have had water in the footwell behind driver since this happened
not sure whether its coming in or if its melted snow still trapped in there will try and dry it out but its takin foreva

oh also the window went into safety mode (had to press the buton 6-7 times to get it to close) the other night

im guessing the electrics are shot to hell
and scrapyard is the answer
but tought id have 1 final ask
sorry for another long one - wanted to add all i could

cheers keys

edit: how would i check the cat?? take off?

:| id borrow /loan a code reader and see if anything flags up,
other than that its a Guessing game sadly which ive had with cars myself before and thrown good money away :(

it couid be anumber of things :
iagree as above check the cat for being blocked -if it is it will be choking the car,
or try unplugging the Maf and see if it makes a diference

no plug leads gary
shite electronics control everything
wish it had leads and a carb... so much

right anyway just took it out to get some baccy
and to see if any better

got into town fine
stopped and started a few times
on way home
went weird again

when pressing throttle would splutter
then i would lift of throttle and revs would rise and would sound good
was idling ok still
had to drive home in first on idle last 2 miles
then conked out just b4
put 1 gallon in then it started fine

just about got me home

i dont understand
i only put a 10er in yesterday and it did no miles
must be a leaking fuel pipe or something

scrapyard i think

cheers for all the help guys
shame its still only done 88k

can not put more money in now

so is there a breaking thread somewhere??

Gaz may not be right on the leads but he may be close,
Have you checked the coil packs?

if the car is down on a cylinder it will drink fuel,
Dont give up just yet keep looking it may be something Simple thats easy/cheap to fix,

Best of luck anywayz

Plenty of threads lately with people having problems only to find connectors under the carpet have corroded due to water ingress
Therefore if it was me, i'd be checking these first

The 1.8 has the well plugs integrated into a coil pack; not cheap either unless you get a good one from a breakers.
