if theres no fluid you should be able to see where its come out, dont forget brake fluid is like paint stripper so you will want to remove it if its leaked onto anything.

well the mechanics doing it, on the sri its a sealed unit so have to buy a whole new kit pre filled, so theyre not known to leak then? maybe i damaged it with my head on crash in the ice, was fairly low speed tho

If your clutch release bearing gave up the ghost it's perfectly possible that you managed to push the slave cylinder too far which caused the fluid to spew out.

The D8 clutch hydraulics are a single sealed part encompassing the reservoir, master and slave cylinders, and pipework. Attempts to change one section independently are pointless as they always seem to end in failure and miss the beauty of the sealed system, which is that the whole lot can be replaced in under 10 minutes...

Replacement can however be expensive if going for new parts, but with plenty of 406s and Xantias in breakers yards, finding a suitable replacement on the cheap shouldn't be too hard.

im having a new clutch kit and master cylinder kit fitted, its at the garage now, just wondering why after i had the little head on crash in the ice, when i got back in the car the pedal had gone and was on the floor, a crash wouldnt make the thrust bearing go would it? unless its a very big coincidence, i mean the clutch was about to go any minute as i was on my way back from garage which was shut and was trying to get it home quick as possible but didnt think had gone before the crash.

thats why im worried, cos if the crash did cause the clutch/pedal to go, what else has it done to the car? could just be cos i was in 2nd and then came to a sudden stop while in gear and it made the clutch go?
