power restored

Still working through a few problems with my 2.1td,i noticed that the turbo was sluggish until 3000rpm . The turbo was working ok and pressurizing the intercooler pipes but there was a few leaks.
Removed the engine undertray and found that the plastic pipework to the turbo was misalligned where it enters the aluminium manifold,so i removed the pipework and applied sealer around the two o-rings and refitted. This sealed up nicely then noticed the oil dribbling down from the plastic intake manifold and that the four rubber couplings behind the rocker cover were very loose,i removed the intake manifold and cleaned the couplings and pipework. These were really dirty and oiley and took ages to clean,i silicone sealed the couplings onto the aluminium intake pipes and applied sealer to the intake manifold then carefully refitted. After letter the silicon sealer set for a few hours i took the car for a run and what a difference,it now starts pulling from 1500 rpm and keeps going!! :) Another problem sorted however i found the cat is cracked and leaking, so one ordered off ebay for £74 that will keep me busy next weekend.

you could have just cut the cat off and got a pipe for it, that wuld make a differnce to the power too

I did think about removing the cat and fitting a straight through but i did not what to possibly effect the MOT, as i wasnt sure it would pass with the cat removed?. And i like to keep the car as standard as i can..

When I had the cat replaced on my 2.1 I asked about just fitting a bit of pipe. They'd tried it once on a 2.1, it wouldn't run right :?

Fitted a new cat today and what a pig of a job. Theres not much room around the front coupling, i had to use every extension bar in my socket set.
But the engines running lovely, smooth and quiet(ish) . Now to find a few squeaks from around the steering wheel and its nearly ready for its trip to scotland!!!.

Good to hear it's sorted. 8)
Early 406 1.9 XUDs didn't have cats, do when we changed my bro's we fitted a system with front silencer instead. Don't know if the same's true of 2.1's
