Well, I bought the owd Pug about 2 months ago now and she aint a bad un.

1.8 Rapier on a Y plate with 103K on the clock. Good service history and cambelt changed at 90K so good for a while yet. Air con is freezing and all buttons, knobs and turning bits do what they are meant to. Went for the petrol option as I wanted something that would warm up very quickly as my commute is very short. Returning about 37 MPG which I think is very reasonable for something that is undepowered to pull a big car all being said.

So a couple of minor probs that I want to knock on the head before they get into bigger things.

1) I have the infamous (by the looks of the amount of threads on it) clutch judder when pulling away. Nothing when changing other than a clunk (possible rear engine mount). I am thinking it is the mount thats also giving me the judder as if I rev it higher the judder all but disapears so its only there when pulling away using normal revs for a petrol car.

2) When I bought it i noticed some oil gathering on the top of the gear box casing, didnt look drastic so cleaned it and thought I'll keep an eye on it. Well its come back and its getting worse. Cannot see anything coming from the rocker cover but I have yet to take the plastic cover off to investigate. Is this fairly comon on the 16 Valve 1.8's? Also seems to be using oil (or leaking) at a high rate, went from top of dipstick to bottom of it in just under 2,000 miles.

Also have another pug which is a little special though!!!!!!!

Welcome in mate! :)
1. I'd definitely check the bottom engine mount for starters
2. Check to make sure none of the breathers are clogged, apart from that all I can suggest is clean the area again and see if you can spot where the leak is.

Rub some chalk on the vertical faces and you will soon track down where it's coming from! Washes off easily when you have done the job wherever it may be!

Managed to get a service carried out today and got a chance to have a look see where oil was coming from. Both rocker gaskets seemed fine but had the parts so changed them regardless. Quite a bit of oil around the filler cap area and the channel between the cam holders where the coil pack sits.

Am now thinking as when it was topped up by the seller prior to me buying it, they spilt a load of oil in the attempt and it is slowly working its way in the direction of the geabox. Either that or the filler cap is leaking! Anyone heard of that?

Had a good look at the engine mount regarding the clutch judder and nothing aparent. Engine mount looks fine and engine is not moving too much on its mounts. Am wondering if maybe some of the above mentioned oil has found its way through gearbox housing onto the clutch plate.

Other than that though everything is in order apart from twice in 3 month now the brake fluid warning noise and indication has come on but when I have a look everything is fine! Perhaps a faulty sensor?

All done though more than happy with me £900 minter :)
