Hi all
As I think a collapsed cat is at the bottom of my 2.0 D8 not running properly (will not idle and when running k light on intermittanly and slightly lumpy running)
When I banged the cat with my fist it makes a sound like 2 broken cups in a carrier bag
Anyhoo Ive ordered a 2nd hand cat (£25 just incase it isint that) and plan to remove the old one tomorrow, as it looks like its been on forever is their any easy technique to removing the old one? How many bolts hold it on at the engine end and what size are they? I'm guessing I will have to get at it from underneath with the car on axle stands?
Cheers for any info/help

Might be an idea to look in the CPC here -
http://peugeot406coupe.nl/catalogus/ (rather than me fill this space with parts diagrams...)

Cheers for the link mate, I can make out 2 nuts and bolts at the engine side which will need to be removed, gave them a soaking in wd40 earlier as it looks like the original cat, known my luck the blighters will snap

Often the way with egg sauces

Might be worth trying to ease them back and forth a bit at a time like you were cutting a new thread in them.
Here's a thing, many years ago I read about some grease for assembling exhausts that contained glass beads - the idea is the grease quickly burns off but the glass beads always stay and lubricate the fittings when you take them to bits. I've never found anyone else who's ever heard of it though
Yes, I'm sure I didn't dream it

I assume you didn't ingest any of it either.

I'd have thought beads would pass straight through without harm but I wouldn't want to put any in a sandwich...

some gasket paper and nuts, bolts and washers from B&Q (other hardware stores are available) will do the job, exhaust paste from your local factors if you're fussy.
I find a disc cutter fits any size nut and doesn't care how old and siezed they are

Thanks for all the help chaps, I will be having a go at removing it tomorrow
I certainly hope this is the cause of the running problems, if no its back to the drawing board
