Hi all,
I've had a quick search but not sure if it could be the same issue.
Basically after changing my Aux belt the car has started making a clicking noise with engine speed. It's almost inaudible at idle but gets noticably louder around 2k onwards. The only way I can describe the noise is like someone has put spokey-dokes on the crank
Could this be the crank pulley on it's way out?

I think the 2.1 has a solid pulley. Take the aux belt off again and run it without, it could be a whole host of things but it's most likely to be something to do with the aux belt, perhaps the idler's had it. Or it could be your cam belt starting to shred

from experience I would DEFINATELY check the idler and tensioner, there will be tears otherwise.
406 estate, 2.1TD, I fixed her, then part exchanged her for a Mercedes E300TD Avantgarde Estate.
Hmmmm, straight 6 goodness!

I remember looking at the cam belt and couldn't see any signs of cracking etc.
I'll have a look asap at the other bits, thanks

ye sounds like tensioner pulley ...
i changed my belt other month . then 2 month later it cost me another £150 to get the tensioner idler pully changed cos that went.
inspect the belt with car running on tick over.. you should be able to see the idler pulley , check the belt is running nice and smooth round it..
if its that expect to pay £150+ for the job done, unless you can do it yourself will cost you about £70
it isnt an easy job either...

I'll check the belt to see whether it's too tight as that may cause an issue.
My old mans a pretty solid mechanic so we should be able to sort it out ourselves - I refuse to pay garages unless I absolutely have to!
