New top mounts on the HDi and it feels like a new car!

The "lurching" when giving a bit of acceleration in slow traffic has gone.

Excellent! I remember when I has my lower mount replaced and it made it drive like new!

The engine really does need to stay where it should to give the best drive.

think its time to get mine done, got this horrible judder in 1st gear setting off even when engine is cold

i think now your happy im gonna get mine inspected ..

Strangely my car used to have a judder in 1st gear,

until iwent down a Cobbled road it disapeared no more judder,
carnt work out why but the cobbles fixed it


if it judders again its gettin another blast down the same cobbles

knowing my luck this year . if i go down a cobble road i will end up needing new springs. new droplinks. track rod ends.

bad bad luck so far this year so i'll pay to have the engine mounts changed lol

im just waiting for the warmer weather to come and im changing them too,
the top too are easy to change

bottom one is drive shaft out so imight as well change the cv Gaiters whilst its out and New Gear oil too,

They checked lower said it was fine, but upper nearest the timing belt needed done.

Does drive a lot better, especially in 1st gear.

Duno if i need to change my mounts or not, 178k on country roads says i possibly do. Although I can't say that the car feels that juddery

Its only really when travelling in slow traffic that it was noticable. Like every morning on the bloody Ravenhill Road.

In 1st gear crawl, slight increase in pace, just dab on the accelerator, and at that "tipping point" the car feels like it is lurching forward. Then coming off, it feels like it is lurching back.
Sometimes if the traffic is just at the right speed, keeping the accelerator lightly, the car feels like it is kangarooing down the road.

Top engine mounts have cured it at a bit, but I noticed this morning that it hasn't gone away totally.

Bottom engine mount will need done too I suspect. Strange that they said it was ok. That or they didn't want the job of changing it. I've heard it's a pain.

Nothing is ever straightforward, the car is cursed.

After reading your post sirwiggum, it would appear that I need some mounts replaced. My car has been like that in first gear since I've been driving the thing, I always just thought thats what 406's were supposed to do.lol. As of today it would appear I will be needing a clutch in the near future, started to slip on the drive to and from work would this be a good opportunity to get the mechanic to go ahead and do the bottom mount?

yes that would be the perfect oppertunity . do it with clutch,

in fast thats on my list from now on. bottem engine mount with a new clutch.. at the same time ..

I need to do my bottom mount.Bit of a clunk in 1st & 2nd,& if you rev the engine it flexes quite a bit.Top looks fine,but bottom looks worn.But after changing 2 cv joints on the short driveshaft,i`m not fazed my removing the driveshaft.

I get quite a large jolt when I switch the engine off - is it the engine mounts and if so which one is it likely to be? If it's something more sinister then I will not be pleased. I still haven't got the offside sill welded yet and the cars gone nowhere in about 4 weeks. ZZR is getting loads of use though even if it has turned damn cold again.

Why do cars always need attention when its so f***ing cold?

it will most probably be the bottom mount,
mine jolts when engine is switched off,

Had the clutch replaced, and am a bit cross that the bottom mount was not done at the same time - with over 200k on the car it would have been a sensible idea. Still, will keep the garage in business, unless I bite the bullet and do it myself

Is there a handy guide in the forums please?
