Hi Folks

Does anybody know how many differant gearboxes there are available for the peugeot engine range?

Do 2.0 Hdi's Have the same gearbox as the 2.0 petrols or are they differant?

Is it the same gearbox from 96-04.

I have noticed that a y reg 2.0 Hdi is not the same as an 02, but the y reg is 110 and the 02 is 90, so is the differance between 110 and 90, or 96 to 01 and 02-04?

Both types have same reverse pattern which is right and down which I'm told is the BE box

Also is a Peugeot 2.0 HDi Boxer, Expert, Partner, 307, 206 etc, the same gearbox as 406..... ?

Lets have some data on what gearbox fits what and what years and models.

i would have thought if its same engine its gonna be same box no matter what model its in

Lots - BE3, BE3R, BE4R, ML5T, ML5C. Plus automatics HP20 and AL4. And that's not to mention different ratios and modifications.

Depends which, the 2.0 HDi 110and the 2.2 use the ML5C & T which are also used by the 2.0 turbo, 2.2 and V6 while the 90s use the BE4R, which are common amongst the petrols. But again, with different ratios.

I doubt if any are unmodified.

Between 90 & 110. They also modified the crankshaft/gearbox input shaft on the 90 some time, apparently old gearboxes will fit on new crankshafts but not the other way round.

Yes let's To work it all out will take days though. If you really need to know sign up to Service Box http://public.servicebox.peugeot.com/ and have a look yourself. You could also sign up to Citroen's version Citroën Service http://service.citroen.com/ and do the same thing there.

It's a valid point though; I would love to have a 6th gear on the 2.2 Coupe, but I have absolutely no chance of doing that job right by myself (no tools, no ramp, no pit, no technical know-how, and I guess no cojones either - I love my car too much to break it by doing something stupid).

What would be good would be if the first 5 gears were as they are on the existing gearbox, but additionally have a longer 6th gear so that I can cruise on the motorway at 70 MPH with the engine turning at 2,500 RPM instead of 3,200 RPM. I suspect it would be more fuel-efficient. Additionally, might that also up the top speed?

At any rate, it'd be too expensive, and would be ammo for the bastard insurers.

Uhhh kind of. I was reading a near-identical thread on the Coupe Club forum, and got confused

The point on the Coupe Club post was "is it possible to get a 6th gear by swapping the gearbox from another Pug with the same type of engine?", whereas this seems to be more along the lines of "My gearbox may be shagged or on its way out; if it is, can I use one from another Pug with the same type of engine?"

I must need to go lie down or something!

I know a couple of the 205 boys are using the cable selected gearbox from the 406 in the 205 to get rid of the shifter rods

ML6C, (a la 407),is wot's wanted, but it's not going to do anything for your max speed to increase the top gear mph/1000, unless you can already hit the rev-limiter in 5th. Your 3200 RPM @ 70, suggests > 140 mph @ 6500, (or whatever max revs is).

I thought about doing it, but since mine is already about 2400 revs @ 70 and has a significantly wider power band than most of the modern diesels that are mated to 6-speeders, I wouldn't gain much and might even regret it.

To continue the digression...
HDi 90 has a longer ratio in 5th than HDi 110.

The (my?) 90 is too weedy either for 5th to be much longer or for a 6th to be useful. Unless you made the turbo work from about 1200, but then you'd have to reduce the redline and make the rest of the ratios closer. Like a van.
