Aux Belt Problem

Hi everyone!
Ive got a noise coming from the aux belt (i think) its making a rattling and sometimes a squealing sound when its idling also the lights flicker when revs drop but once the car has been driven for a few miles it dissapears. I took it to a garage who said the belt isnt alligned properly. Does this sound like the symptoms of that? Also I get a chirp noise when engaging gear and taking foot off the clutch could be related maybe?
Thanks
Phill

The bottom pulley might be at fault here, look for brown dusty looking deposits near the bottom pulley and/or shards of metal. These pulleys wear out and make a right old racket when they get near the end (think: shocking noise

)
The 'chirp' when engaging gears is likely to be the Dual Mass Flywheel, this also 'squeaks' loudly when the engine first fires up. Not really a huge problem, most do it, some get really bad and start vibrating but others can live with it for a long time (mine did it for 3 years).

Thanks for reply...
I asked the guy to look at it he said he cant tell for definate without getting underneath it but their is no powder stuff visible. Would the misalignment cause any noises?

Misalignment is not good and I Just read your mileage, 127K is bang-on the money for a bottom pulley replacement - I'd check it out.
It's worth noting that any other Aux Belt noise usually disappears by just replacing the belt - some think that the tensioner is noisey but it isn't.
