Periodic Metalic noise

My D8 2.0 GLX has a metilic sounding "clunk" which occurs intermitently. It seems to ocurr:
* When starting the engine
* Changing gear
* Turning the corner

You can "feel" the noise through the floor and it does seem to be occuring more often.

As far as I can tell the noise comes from the drivers side at the front. My mechanic has checked the suspension bushes and engine mounts and says they all appear to be OK so we are waiting to see what brakes else he would be changing parts on a best guess basis. He feels it is some bush or mount perishing and as metal is rubbing against metal. I am tempted to have all of the engine mounts changed, any thoughts?

Is this the mechanic with the white stick? :shock:

Sounds like an engine mounting - starting the engine, changing gear, cornering = engine can move about due to loose mounting. Ooh, here's a thought, check the front subframe mounting bolts for tightness.
