I have been having a problem starting my car over the last few days and it is slightly spluttering when driving. Checked all the fuel lines and found air bubbles being drawn into the HP lucas pump , so it is drawing in air from some where?. This is when i started getting confused and need help, when the ignition is turned on i was listening for the in tank fuel pump to run but no sound!. So lifted the back seat and removed the black cover, removed the pipe connections and plug, removed the locking ring and lifted out the....ITS only a fuel sender and NO pump.. I guess this is right . So put it all back together and started checking the fuel pipe connections and fuel filter for leaks. The pipework looks ok but when i removed the fuel filter housing lid there is only a seal around the filter itself and not one around the housing lid?. This does not look right and when i refitted the housing lid and primed the bulb i can hear a slight hissing from around the lid edges, and more bubbles than before!!.
So does the 2.1td not have a lift pump and what seals should be in the fuel filter housing....

no the xuds dont have in tank pump..

yes the fuel filter itself has the rubber seal on it.. i found mine to leak after a change .

so i took it off again . cleaned the seal on the fuel filter. cleaned the lid so it was bone dry.

remove as much fuel as you can from the housing. making sure its fully dry

so when you put filter on its bone dry. and bolt the lid on making sure the filter stays dead centre.

maybe buy a new filter before you do it. ther eonly a few quid so its worth cleaning all the lid then fitting new filter

Thanks for that gary, the filter is not genuine part and looks cheap so i will get a new filter and seal in the morning. Hope that sorts it as has been running lovely .

Just had a look on ebay for filters and the genuine peugeot filter have a better design of sealer ring that looks to be bonded to the filter element, the cheaper one look like they can been awkward to seal. So maybe a trip to peugeot tomorrow as they cant be very costly

a cheap one is the same as a genuine one mate. there all the same . dont be fooled into that "genuine" thing..

get a new one from euro car parts. they even deliver free to your front door, http://www.eurocarparts.com/

a new filter will have a good rubber seal on it. just dont remove it from the new filter. as i said fully clean and dry the top of the housing and the housing lid
so that its all bone dry when you place the new filter in. make sure the filter stays dead center on top of the housing.
carefully place the lid on slowly and hold it there with 1 hand why u put the 4 bolts back in with other hand.
then fully tighten them really tight.
ive found with these filter houses you can really over tighten them. once they get tight they just fully stop and you cant turn it anmore even if you try

ive also found the yellow with silver top filters are the best

AVOID the green ones

get the guttman one from euro car parts. yellow filter with silver top .

£3.84 now thats what i call cheap servicing

so you had a look at the filter ? and put the old one back ?

Fitted a new filter today and no more air bubbles in the fuel line and running lovely again

did you fully dry al the lid and housing ?

which filter did you buy ?

glad you got it sorted .

Fitted a motoquip fiter from a local motor factor, drained the filter bowl and cleaned the lid and bowl until nice and dry. All Good .
