Lower engine mount,

Im going to change the lower engine mount,
but im thinking of just popping the drive shaft out of the gearbox end and leaving the other side in the hub, :roll:
as anyone else changed em this way is it possible ?

ye only drivers side driveshaft needs be removed..

talking of ngine mounts jasper is gonna take a look at mine because when engine is idling if you rev it from the pump the engine pulls backwards.

if jasper cant look im gonna juet get the bottom mount changed anyway ..

You have to remove the whole driveshaft as the driveshaft has a bearing on it that goes through a bearing carrier and is bolted into the carrier.

The bearing carrier is the housing for the engine mounting as well.


Gary, I'm still waiting to hear about borrowing a ramp for sunday, my daughter must be on funny shifts....I will let you know whether I have it or whether you can come to my house...either way I will look at it on sunday for you.

does the engine jolt when you turn ign off ?

iwill have to buy a big socket as ive only got a 35mm one hence the reason of thinkin of leaving shaft in hub,
imight as well change cv gaiters while im at it,

yep my engine jolts and makes a "clunk" sound when i turn it off and start it.

not every single time but more or less most of the time.

also when i rev the car from the pump the engine seems to pull back . i dont know if this is normal or not ..

Lozz, my 36mm is slightly too big but it fits because it's a hexagon....I always thought these were 35mm....oh well....

Mine does same thing mate.
it started off with it doing it now and again but now its every time the engine is stopped.
Mines deffo fubard

also when engine is idling it feels like its missing because of the movement in the engine, :(

Replaced my lower mount lastnight, its made a HUGE difference! No judders on startup, gear changes are alot nicer and I can give it a proper cain up through the gears now without having to compensate for the judders with the clutch :)

Its too late to be of help to you guys but it is possible to to remove to engine mount bracket with the driveshaft in situ.
From memory it was a pig to fiddle off the sub frame but a whole lot easier than taking out the drive shaft,
