hey up folks

got a weird fault thats just started happening on my 1.8 16v, every now and then as soon as you select reverse ,the engine, splutters then it just cuts out, unless you keep the revs above 2500, doesnt do it all the time just now and then andit doesnt do it any of the forward gears
makes for interesting reversing when it happens.
any ideas whats up ?

Is this when you shove it in gear but before you lift the clutch or anything? What happens if you disconnect the reversing light switch?

You might have to leave it disconnected to give the fault time to happen.

I can't imagine how the brake light circuit would affect the engine running, unless the wires are munched somewhere. Oooh, while the air filter's off check out the wiring you can see under there.

woohoo fixed it had a look this morning was quite easily one of the most simple things ever.it
was one of the wires off the reset button under the bonnet ,the insulation had wore through and was hitting the inner wing in reverse , a bit of i nsulation tape and its cured

dont you just love easy fixes

Lucky! I can see that being nearly impossible to find if it weren't obvious!
