STOP light fun, I don't think :(

Ok guys and gals, my STOP light came on intermittently on the way home this evening. Centre console display read 'coolant temp too high', coolant temp was where it should be, parked up and double checked and all was ok coolant wise. Turned off aircon and STOP light went away, doing my best Alan Partridge impression 'Ahaaa!!' I said. Radiator fan, checked it and its spins up then cuts off, almost stops, STOP light comes on for a split second then the fan spins up again, then slows again, STOP light back on briefly etc etc.....
I guess this is my fan going intermittent or a dodgy contact, could you knowledgable folks confirm the diagnosis before I start dismantling the wrong bits

.
Cheers dears

you need to change both the cooling fans and the three relays that operate them

Cheers James,
Forgot to say, this is on a D9 with one large cooling fan, if that makes any difference.

didnt know it was a d9 with single fan, without the engine running get a long screwdriver and try turning the fan if it feels rough or there is some resistance it could be the bearings are going in the motor, also a pressure test of the a/c system would be a good idea, if the pressures are going through the roof the stop light will come on and the cooling fans can develop a mind of there own, i know the d8 has a cooling fan ecu which also plays up alot, not sure if the d9 suffers with the same problem
could also be the cooling fan switch

I'll whip my camera out this weekend and take some snaps. Might have to do a little how to guide for the forum (good idea Mr Welton, sir)
