Apologies if its a daftie question

Is the stepper motor from a 1.8 the same as a 2.0?

still trying to get to the bottom of my idling/stalling issues and I nabbed one from my local breakers a couple of weeks ago, It looks identical and has the same AVC lettering on the side

I couldint tell what the breaking 406 was as it was badly crushed up with just the engine exposed

Also would a faulty stepper light up the K light?

Wot no Service Box? :(
I presume you mean this little motor number 17 here:

If so then they're not the same :(

No, Unfortunately I don't have service box access :(

Yes, thats the fella, part number 17

How would I tell the difference? As side by side they look identical

When I removed mine, there wasint a washer (18) on mine, I refitted my old one (after cleaning with carn cleaner) with the washer that was on the one I got from the breakers

Also wheres the MAP sensor on that pic, Ive got a feeling it might be failing again (although Ive just paid £95 to have it replaced with a new one - from a garage thats beside a breakers yard so im suspiciuous they've just used a salvage part :(

I will try that, I know ive got a feeling im clutching at straws as just don't know what is wrong with it, seriously this car is more hormonal than my Mrs, one minute its running spot on then the next its missing, cutting out and being a bugger to start.

It usually starts first time in the morning, and after 5 or so mins of driving I will feel the engine miss, the K light will come on and it will run lumpy, If you put your foot down it pulls as it should and the light will go out, let it go to idle and if it doesent cut out the light will usually come back on with the idle going up and down between 900-1400rpms, then go off and so forth, then it will go out all together and be spot on all day??

Hmm it Be a total guessing game withought a fault code ,
it couid be anything,
if its being an intermitent fault id be checking all the wires to the sensors etc and see if its earthing out somewhere,
One of my old mondeos used to cut out after 5mins of driving fire it up and it wouid run right all day,
the cold start problem was a Duff maff on it,

Have you noticed any temp guage or speedo problems ?

the temp guage works fine, sits between 70-75 all day, speedo is a different matter, sometimes it sticks at 41mph a while no matter how fast or slow im driving and the needle usually bounces around, other times it works fine

Carnt you take it back to the Garage that fixed it for you last time,
and tell him what ever he fixed as Gone again,
Maybe He will be Good Enough to see if theres any fault codes so You can work out wether it was the part that hes fitted that asnt failed again,

You couid End up changing stuff and it be a waste of time/money withought a fault code :(

Personaly id take it back to him he can only say No

Ive just disconnected the stepper whilst the engine was running and pretty much nothing happened apart from the revs went up a little....Is that normal?

Motor was running quite lumpy this morning with k light on so I popped the bonnet and unplugged the lamda sensor, straight away engine ran right and the k light went out, so I thought hang on........plugged it back in and it ran rough and the light came back on, so unplugged and all right again when k light went out

I'm guessing its the lamda sensor?? I know the centre exhausts rattling possibly causing a partial blockage thus a duff reading from the sensor triggering the k light and lumpy running
