Hi all,

Bought a pug planet from ebay and hooked it up today for the global test, ive had the car about a week now (406 HDI 90 on an 02 plate) and although its got better after a service its still feeling hesitant and getting the anti pollution fault.. The faults the global test picked up (and i quote) are:

1. PERMANENT FAULT: ACCELERATOR PEDAL SIGNAL - COHERENCE WITH BRAKE SWITCH

2. PERMANENT FAULT: FLOWMETER SIGNAL OPEN CIRCUIT OR SHORT TO EARTH

3. PERMANENT FAULT: FRIC (COOLING FUNCTION INTEGRAL WITH ECU) CONSISTENCY BETWEEN FAN SPEED AND THE SETTING.

4. INTERMITTANT FAULT: INTAKE AIR TEMP SIGNAL - SHORT CIRCUIT TO POSITIVE OR CIRCUIT OPEN.

5. INTERMITTANT FAULT: EGR VALUE CIRCUIT - EGR VALVE SOLENOID VALVE OPEN CIRCUIT

6. INTERMITTANT FAULT: EGR CIRCUIT AIRFLOW MEASURED HIGHER THAN RECOMMENDED.

Im eager with the spanners but not great, so if someone could be kind enough to explain these in laymans terms and what to look for/replace to fix the problems id be very grateful as ive got 3 kids desperate to go to Yorkshire for a break but want to be sure the cars going to be fine first.

Personally I would clear the codes and run the car for a time then read them again as some of the codes may not come back.

I would see what code/s come back then take it from there.

I had a BMW recently with 6 different fault codes cleared the codes and only one came back which was throttle body, sent it in to a BMW guy because the throttle body is an absolute pig to change on the 523i.

I'd definetely go along with jasper, clear them & see what returns, (a lot of them don't come back).

Have cleared them this evening so time will tell...one thing i did notice though was the first point to do with the accelerator pedal signal...my car tends to go from 800 rpm to 1800 rpm without touching the accelerator pedal ! doing a bit of googling seems to suggest a problem with the throttle position sensor being faulty which also causes the pollution fault to show (mine does)...alot is said about it being possible to remove and try to clean but i dont even know where to start looking on my HDI 90 ... anyone enlighten me ??

Thanks for the advice, i cleared the fault codes and most of them cleared except for 2 of them which are:

1. PERMANENT FAULT: ACCELERATOR PEDAL SIGNAL - COHERENCE WITH BRAKE SWITCH

2. PERMANENT FAULT: FLOWMETER SIGNAL OPEN CIRCUIT OR SHORT TO EARTH

I went to my local breakers today and bought a second hand Throttle position sensor from the engine bay and also a used Siemens MAF sensor and replaced them both before I reset the codes and went for a drive before the 2 errors came up.

Can anyone shed any light on these, ive also noticed when driving for around 15 minutes if im stationary at the lights and have my foot on the brake the revs are around 800rpm..if i take my foot off the brake (so just the handbrake on, not in gear) the revs go to around 1800 rpm!! im assuming this is something to do with the first error but havent a clue where to start to try and rectify it.

The second error, ive read in another forum could be something to do with a bad earth and to cut the earth wires on the maf and re earth to a known good source...anyone tried or heard of this?

Can anyone help me out on these please??

PS How many TPS does the car have, is it 2 for safety sake and if so...wheres the second one ?

I've seen a reference to a wiring mod similar to that you describe, somewhere on this site, a year or two back - try having a search.

I don't think there's a 2nd TPS, or any other sensor associated with the accelerator, but some do have 2 switches on the brake pedal - probably only for cruise control, (I did once see a HDi 90 advertised, with cruise).
