Warning light

Hi

When I first start my 2003 HDI after about a minute there is a big ' Stop ' flashing on my dashboard and the display says warning engine over temperature.
After a couple of miles this all returns to normal. I have been told it's probably a dodgy temp sensor and cheap to replace, can anyone confirm this ?
Cheers

same symptoms as my 1.9 turbo diesel 3 weeks ago. STOP warning light on when fans were running.
fans were not always running , stop light would come and go.

replaced my coolant temperature sensor and it cured it. sp i agree with the person that told you this.

are the fans spinning when they shouldnt be ?

I had the same on my 2003 hdi last year.I cant exactly remember where the sensor is,but i think it is on or near the end of the `head near to the thermostat.I think it was clipped in on mine.I unpluged the sensor, removed the retaining clip & it just pulled out.I did`nt lose much water, but i changed the thermostat & coolant at the same time. :)
