How often is best to drain the fuel filter on a hdi 110,
idrained it about 2 mths or so and found no sighn of water,
theres no mention of this in the Haynes,
just wondering if this is something best done or just leave it alone,
as anyone else noticed any water in filters, or is this draining out water thing a Myth,
Thanks inadvance,

Only ever checked mine a couple of times in 230k miles between my two HDi's.
Didn't find any water, but I do lots of miles and run it from full to empty all the time - I
think you're more likely to get a problem if your car sits with a part-full tank for longer periods.

I have never bothered draining any water. I previously had two 306 1.9 diesels and never bothered. But I did always
replace the fuel filter myself every 2 years regardless. Will do the same for my 406 HDI.

Idrained off the fuel filter today as the cars been running abit lumpy from cold,
drained it into a plastic bottle it did have water in it and it was yellow,
idrained it and put the ignition on let it prime fired it up it smoked like feck dont know why
took it for a italian tune up over the moors and its been fine since,
theres also more noise from the filter housing buzzier
im going to change the filter soon me thinks,
im going to drain the housing more often,
ialso noticed idont have the water sensor on the housing but the wire/plug is there for it im thinking ive got the wrong housing on this, anyideas ?

Some of them have water sensors, some don't. Seems it's just your luck.

iwouidnt mind the "Water sensor being there tbh,
couid ijust get another housing with the sensor on and plug it in or is this a bsi need to be programed thing ?
atleast then iwouid know when there is a presence of water and ican just drain off then or bin the filter,
idont trust fuel stations at the moment they couid be pissing in the tanks for all we know
