Hopefully a quick question this, I was just changing the fuel filter when I noticed this sensor/plug had come off on the inlet pipe:



Is it important? It seems to be quite loose and looks like it'll come off again and with the reason for the fuel filter change being the car seems a tad hesitant in some of the rev range, I was wondering if that may have something to do with it?

I know it does something, its just I didn't know if it would massively affect the performance of the car, petrol engines run just fine with the lambda sensor disconnected (not that you should do that anyway).

So what's it do?

Looks like inlet air temperature to me. Is it lacking that little spring clip to hold it in place?

If you disconnect the lambda on a modern petrol you'll get all sorts of emissions warnings, the engine revs will surge up and down and eventually you'll kill the cat. Nothing to worry about really.

Well it was either that or the fuel filter cos it feels much better to drive now! I did change the filter yesterday but EuroCarParts gave me the smaller one and it didnt seem to make any difference, now I've fitted a Bosch 88mm high one it seems to pull much better, so it was either the sensor or the fuel filter being too small!
