I have a 1999 406 Executive 2.0 which keeps over heating. If I'm stood idling the red warning stop light comes on, its ok when I'm running around.I don't seem to be losing any water. Any ideas would be welcome

I don't know if coolant has been changed as I only got the car a few weeks ago. The temp gauge is showing just under 90 degrees when I'm running around but if I have to do a lot of stop start and using the clutch a lot the gauger goes right over and the red stop light comes on

theres a bleed screw on the thermostat housing or there abouts,
and theres one on the heater pipes going into direction of bulkhead,

is your heater blowing out hot constant heat ?

also check the header tank asnt been overfilled,
if itsbeen overfilled it couid cause circulation problems

Fans should be working if it's that hot - (he's saying the temperature's just about OK unless it's stationary).

The fans should be running at half speed around 90c, you can't really hear them with the engine running but they are on. If one of the fans fail the other will run at full speed all the time. At least on a D8 anyway.

Thanks for the help, looks like I'll have to wait till I can afford to put it in local garage as I'm disabled and have problems with my hands unless there is some-one local from here who could have a look.
