hello,im new here so if i post somwhere wrong,i apologise
my name is Silvester,coming from Croatia.

here s my problem.
i have an 2.0 Peugeot 406 turbo year 97,and it apparently has a weak pistons.
thats why it was produced only from 96-98.
i wanted to remap my ECU to gain some torq and hp but i dont know what are the reliability limit of the pistons.
now it has around 140-150 hp,and with ECU remap it would be around 180-190hp.
now,i have found here you,406 maniacs like myself and any opinions are welcome.
if somebody has here turbo like mine and done ecu remapping,let me know.

There are a number of people with our engine fitted in 205s and 306s, most of these are running between 180 and 200 BHP on standard internals with no problems whatsoever. in fact DP Engineering state the engine can take up to 300BHP on the standard pistons.
My engine is about to be transplanted into a 306 in the next couple of months and is standard at the moment, it has its work cut out shifting a heavy estate car around, but even so its still fairly sprightly, it has the same torque as the ford 2.5V6

the 406 petrol turbo is a low pressure turbo. i really doubt any re-map for a 2.0 turbo 406 petrol would gain 40-50bhp (who told you these figures)

if you want that sort of bhp and torque , get a car like my mates . a VW golf 2006 2.0TDi, 170bhp 250+torque. it shifts like no 2moro.

My mate had a 2litre tubby xantia remapped ithink theyre the same engine
icarnt put a figure on the increase but it was a big differnce that thing was Rapid,
ididnt like the car but it was fun to drive

They are the same engine, i just put a low mileage xantia engine in mine
Although im breaking the car now but im keeping the engine to put in a 306

i really doubt it gaining 40-50bhp from a remap

From a remap alone no, but Xantiaman was running boost up to the map sensor limit and getting good power, A good uprated intercooler, decent fuel pump, bigger injectors and something like a unichip piggyback ecu and hybrid turbo should see a comfortable and safe 200 ponies. The point is the bottom end is 250brake proven by many folk.

My old Nissans were cheap to get 50-100 brake more out of, just wind the boost up to one bar and chuck a walbro fuel pump in and an old saab 9000 intercooler on for an easy 220bhp. Spend about 500 quid for 300bhp. My old S14 was pumping 430bhp but that had some more serious mods inc forged internals.

remember this engine was built for cruising not for power so gaining power from one of these engines may cost you a decent amount, 240bhp-260bhp iirc was gained using a t3 turbo, aftermarket management, stage 3 catcam and obviously a bigger intercooler. map sensor can handle 1 bar of boost which will probley give you around 180-200bhp with a decent i/c and exhaust setup

lozz,yes,xiantia had the same engine,and thats a good thing if xiantia was faster after

johnny turbo,i know that this engine is a cruiser but what the hell,slowly,i will maybe create something of it

does anyone know where the map sensor is on the 406 as ive been told my car needs a new one ?

so can this be changed or is it a case of a new ecu,im not sure it is the map sensor mind,i think the actuator has been set up wrong.hence the over boost ?
