I've had a head skim and new gasket on my 1.9td which has cured the oil in coolant problem, however she doesn't sound right and is a touch down on power.
She sounds like the eggsauce is blowing and the turbo spins up but i don't feel it boost like it used to, any ideas for a quick diagnosis ? can the manifold gaskets be checked easily without dismantling half the engine?
I used to hear the turbo spin up from the drivers seat but now it's so noisy I can't hear a thing, in fact I have to crank up the stereo to hear that!!!
The guy that did the HG is a friend and charged mates rates so I'm not going to scream at him yet, if I know what the problem is he'll fix it but I want to know what it is before I take her back.

Not sure, how would I check ?
It runs smooth enough it's just noisy like a blowing exhaust and lacks power

Bit of an update and I'm feeling more than a little silly right now.
Thought I'd use the long weekend to isolate the problem fully expecting to have to tighten up the manifold as I was sure it was blowing from there due to the noise and drop in power......
Once I got under the car it didn't take very long to spot the problem which with my extremely limited mechanical knowledge was about the only thing I can say is a positive!!!!
Probably a good time to ask more knowledgeable forum members a quick question.......is the back box traditionally connected to the rest of the exhaust?
I appears that moving the manifold around removing and refitting the head was too much for the 14 year old back box and it's given up. My mate says he might be able to weld it, if not I'll see if there is a decent one at the breakers
last thing I need as the head cleaned out the bank account and she's due for MoT in May.
