Just wondering if this sound correct to you guys.

My 2001 HDI 110 Estate is getting on average 36.8mpg. My driving is mostly town and I when I am out on the open roads I give her a bit of a blast

Now as many on here know my car suffers from Turbo lag till 3,000rpm then its all go. Could a faulty MAF decrease fuel economy or does my above figure sound about right for my kind of driving?

It's the same as I do with mostly town runs. I reset the trip computer on each fill up, but if I don't leave town at all I get 34mpg, which isn't far off the official urban figure - & I do boot it out of junctions.

Thanks mate.....You have made me feel better!! I thought I was getting a low consumption! Thinking about it though for nearly a ton and a half of car I suppose its not that bad! Also I travel everywhere with my Bullmastiff in the boot and she weighs just over 10 stone which I suppose would be another factor for fuel consumption?

If you're not getting any kick until 3000rpm then your MAF sensor is on the blink. HDi's usually run out of poke at 3000rpm! That might explain the poor economy. If you thrash a HDi about the place you should still get mid 40's or thereabouts in MPG.

Replace the MAF and you should be in a whole new world of power!

That's made me feel a bit better. Every now & then I think there's a fault with mine where I give it a blast & it goes to sh*te over 3000rpm, but at least now I know they're all like it. To get mid 40s mpg around town would take a warm engine, a lot of patience & a featherlight touch of the accelerator. Not even the official figures give that & they're usually the product of a controlled test in perfect conditions:

Mine is about right as in performance as they quote 12.8 to 60mph and a top speed of 116mph. I have had my speedo showing just over 120mph (Private grounds of course ) and it was showing 118mph on my Road Angel. As for 0-60 I would say mid 12's.

I have given my MAF another clean with electrical cleaner spray, hopefully that may make a difference? If not I wonder what the cheap MAF's are like on Ebay as Euro Car Parts want £91 for one and Peugeot over £100. The ones on Ebay are £29.95........Might be ok?

Always a tricky question this, as MPG depends so much on your driving style and car useage wait etc. But yours does sound low. The maf sensor would be a good place to start. Not sure about ebay ones, people with more knowledge will be along later.

I checked earlier and over the past 298 miles she has done 34.8MPG.......Surely should be more?

I average 55mpg with the ac on, me, wife 2 kids and loads of stuff that kids generate in the boot. So, yes I would say you should be getting better.

55mpg Want to swap

My 110 averages 37mpg round town,
if iboot it 34 -35 mpg.

ive just had another re map done cost me £135 but they rekon it will do even better on the mpg,

What do you reckon to a re-map Lozz........Much difference? When I got my Cossie 9 years ago and had a Stage 1 chip put on her the difference was shocking for £350. 9 years on and just over £8,000 spent........My money pit!

Ive noticed its quicker up hills no strain and no black smoke when you give it some wellie,
other than that theres not much differnce iwas getting a lot of black smoke before when ibooted it thats gone now,
engine is no quieter but it feels alot smoother,
its been remapped before but this time its been tweeked as far as they can go so they say
im just hoping these 406 turbos can take it -time will tell
