ive just read a document pdf based ,
dont ask me where igot it from :supafrisk:

but it says cambelt change shouid be done Every 6 years or Every 120k miles.
that carnt be right couid it,?
ive never seen a belt on a car to live that long maybe the belt can but Tensioners are the weaker part :?
mines done just over 116k and ithink its time belt came off im getting the Whirring noise simalar to the noise of a cam belt thats been tensioned too tight.

My mate said the cambelt was done by the last owner and it was around 70k on miles when it was changed,
can the timing belt covers deform in anyway on the hdi lumps causing this whir noise,
icouid just take the cover off and have alook at the belt condition but thats still a guessing game,

ideas ?
thanks

I reckon 5 years or 100k miles, which happened to coincide for me.

At its second change the tensioners and water pump should be changed too.

I've always had a lot of whir from the aux belt -- with little change when the tensioner, the bottom pulley, or the belt was changed.

The mileage interval is 96,000 miles....as I wrote in the last thread on this question.

If you have a whirring noise, take off the fan belt and run the engine without it fitted, if there is still a noise then you have a tight tensioner or a noisy water pump....if the noise is not there then the problem is the fan belt tensioner or alternator pulley.

Will you still be able to change the timing belt for us in about 2wks time?
also can you add the price of a cam pulley to that quote you gave us ithink it wouid be best for me to have it changed as im not sure if its a solid one or one of them that breaks up it was changed around 8mths ago but ive heard they dont last long

thanks inadvance,

thanks inadvance,

I can get a non-genuine heavy duty crank pulley for £64, not sure about the current price of the genuine part.

If you want the job doing just give me a few days notice.

cheers mate,
the crank pulley on mine looks a solid one but im unsure
the ones that break up do they have slots ?
the one on mine just as 3 little holes and is not slotted :?

im new to hdi engines so ive not got a clue on these pulleys

Yours should be fine being solid, it's the slotted ones with the rubber that give trouble.

The heavy duty ones are solid.
