Hi all.
I am starting to think about a remap for my 2.2 HDi saloon. I've never remapped anything so I'm not an expert in this field.
My car still has the dreaded FAP and I want to keep it until I get the ext forced regeneration warning, since I'm not sure if without the FAP it would still pass the local MOT-like test (I live in Italy, not UK!).
I was offered 300€ without test on the rollings (?) and 80€ more with tests before and after. The remap would lead to around 160 hp (starting from 133 hp).
My car has around 115k miles and has still got the original clutch.

I am NOT interested in exeptional performances but in:
- less turbo lag
- better fuel consumption
- more pleasurable drive
- better pull at <1500 rpm and >3000 rpm

I'm not a mad driver and I intend to make that clutch last another lots of miles.
Do you think I should ask the man before the remap? Is there anything I should be careful about? Am I mad at remapping a car this old? Will I get what I want?

PS: he jst offered me the possibility of a smaller remap to 150hp and +15% torque due to the old clutch.

You should probably talk to doggy about this, our resident 180bhp-magic remapper. He could probably give you his map file and detailed instructions on how to remove the fap filter - and I believe that you'd easily pass the emissions tests as they're not that strict, removing the fap filter as long as the car isn't properly floored during the test will yield hardly any changes. At least in my opinion your best bet is a new clutch and doggy's help because at 115k miles the clutch would need replacing soon anyway and you might as well save up the money for the remap. What you'll need to do it on your own is this:

300 euro is such a rip-off it's untrue. I'd rather get a new clutch and the galletto. Doggy should be able to send you his ECU map file and explain how it's done in more detail. Good luck and I hope you make the right decision for yourself

Thank you so much for all the infos. Problem is I do not want/need 180bhp, 150/160 seem the right balance to me, as I mainly want to save fuel and gain in drive pleasure. Also Doggy's 406 is from 2002 if I reckon correctly, mine is 2001, and as mentioned in other threads it may not work. Also I believe that a custom remap, based on my engine only, cold be much better than a copied remap, as all engines are diferent.
300€ here is pretty normal for a remap, going up to 600€.
Your MOT is different from ours, I've read of people not passing the test because of the FAP filter removed sadly. It's not that it's more strict, probably it's just different.
'bout the new clutch, better go on an original valeo one of some reinforced (copper?) one?
