Dual map ECU?

Hi all, I just read an interesting ebay auction on ebay.it.
The seller (a professional remapper) says he can install two maps on a single car, switchable in any moment with the car on.
He says he can obtain so by doubling the ECU eprom (I guess installing a parallel eprom board) and installing a switch.
One could then use an economic map for everyday driving and a secondary full power map for fun times.
Do you think this would be possible? I've never heard of anything similar.
H'e asking around 100€ for the job.

Actually by doing some research something on this line can be possible.

I've contacted the seller for more infos.

will he give you anew car if it frys the ecu ? thats the question iwouid ask ibet he says no
iwouidnt let anyone loose near my ecu unless iknew they know what they was doing,
its not worth the risk imho not unless there was a guarantee on him paying out if out goes wrong

Of course I will NOT let them touch my ECU even with a long pole. I'm just courious if this can be done. If it is, I may just gather some info and do that myself.
For scientific purposes only, of course!

Any time is a fun time behind the wheel of a 406

Especially with 180 bhp doggy-style
Never investigated in the issue - would be interesting what you find out

Now if that quote doesn't appear in someone's signature (Discopol or Puggy), then I don't know what will...

Now then Graeme you didn't check any of my posts before seeing that did you?
it was done in a flash, sadly i have a mental image "Doggy-style" featuring our very own Doggy which im having difficulty shifting, it seems i will have to take my mind out and bleach the bugger to shift that one.

You're one sick puppy, Disco
Next, you'll be emulating puggy's penchant for waterproof atire.....

So back to the topic, the seller basically says:
- The ECU eprom space gets doubled by installing 29F800 chip and removing the 29F400 which is commonly used
- A switch gets linked to the doubled ECU eprom letting the user select which information on the eprom are to be used
- The switch thus works instantly even with the engine on (this is something I could doubt of)
- En eventual OBD reader just acts reading one half if the switch is in a certain position, and the other half if the switch is in the other position
- Price is 80€ for unsoldering the 29F400 and soldering the 29F800, and 120€ for adding the switch (which I assume has its own board circuitry), for a total of 200€
- They have done this lots of time and can assure the process is 100% safe
Well, while I do not want to pay 200€ to have one more map in the car (say, one normal 180hp and a 130hp more fuel efficient than the stock 133hp one), I am very interested in the process. All the components are fairly cheap, and as far as I can see no extreme soldering skills are required, nor it seems too difficult to create a switch to change between the two maps.
So it's up to this: anyone wanting to experiment? In the meantime I'll ask for a couple of pics and see if it is something feasible.
Two more questions:
how much would a spare ECU would cost, to experiment on?
Is the ECU plug and go? May I use mine on another 406 2.2HDi and viceversa, assuming I do not have the immobilizer alarm?

It's a long time since I studied this kind of thing, so things may have moved on, but I am doubtful about the safety of this strategy.
Changing to a bigger memory chip & futting in two maps seems OK, but this 'switch' sounds problematic, if it is supposed to be usable while driving. It has to change one address line to swap maps, but if it did this while this area of memory was being accessed, the results would be random.
Alternatively, if it interrupts the process while making the swap, what's you're engine doing, (or not doing), while this goes on?
Me? I don't fancy pioneering this one.

I agree too. The running switch seems strange to me too.
This is the foto he sent me. New Eprom on the left and switch on the right.

He answers all the questions promptly and kindly, and seems to really know his stuff. He claims they have done this many times before.
