No4 cylinder down.... hdi

Hi,

No 4 cylinder (cambelt side) is down, and not depressed.... though I am... :(

The car 2.0 hdi 110 started running badly on the way to work. Then realised it was only running on 3 cylinders. Removing the connector to no4 cylinder had no noticable effect where the others stopped the engine. I've just finished my night shift, got home and thought I would have a quick look at it.. after the AA took me home! I assumed it would be an injector. Strangely it was easy to remove the injectors. I swapped 3 and 4 but no4 cylinder was the same. I connected a multi meter upto the injection connector, it is getting a signal.

Am I right in thinking this must be a mechanical problem now? Any ideas or suggestions what to do or try now?

Thanks,

Daniel

You disconnected an injector but the engine kept on going? That's that theory out of the window :(

I reckon I'd have the cam cover off, check the followers are in place and the valves go up and down. I don't think it'll be fuel as I'm pretty sure it has no fuel distributor or anything like that.

You saying there's no compression? I can't imagine one of these things burning a valve or holing a piston :?

Well.... I've taken the rocker cover off.... yep found the problem, two rocker arms are broken! That would definitely explain why it's only running on 3! :D Will just replacing these rockers be fine or could this be the result of another problem? There don't appear to be any nasty noises from the bottom end. And, is it worth replacing the other rockers or should just replacing the two broken ones be fine?

Thanks,

Daniel
