maf is sorted now so moving on to second problem, ESP light comes on every time car is strated and stays all the time, switch is flashing and message pops up esp system defective. Where should i start to ivestigate this problem?
i must say that it was ok before i replaced turbo, when i loosen suspension to lower subframe to take turbo off, 1 of control arm joint bolts got stuck so it needed abit of gentle hammer work to put everything back on. It was the bottom one to drive shaft so i wonder could it made this fault to appear...Where the esp sensors are located, are they related to abs sensor? reason im suspecting it because as soon i swaped turbo and started car esp fault appeared...could be just coinsidence....
Thanks

Been thinking about this one. I thought only v6's had ESP, do you know if your car has it?
If so, it may be related to the new ecu file - you could try the original briefly to prove a point.
If you have ESP & don't want it, I believe it can be 'turned off' with PP2000.
What was the story with the turbo?

My Coupe has the ESP feature - I think it's more related to the age of the car than the engine it's fitted with.
It even has a nice button by the headlight dip adjuster thingy that lets you turn it off - useful for when it's been snowing heavily.

some have this button near the heated seats buttons I believe. It was an option on early D9, non optional on V6s and standard onall models starting from 2003-2004. At least here in Ita.

new map file couldnt cause that as fault started before upload. i bought this car as spares or repairs with blown turbo, bargain for such a spec - its 2003 2.2hdi executive, black with brown leather interior, paid for the car £500 and so far best diesel car i have owned to date(comfort-performance-economy-value) !!!
in my experience ESP is very handy on snow, last winter was driving 2003 BMW525d and with esp turned off car was uncontrolable although its rear wheel drive so with 406 it could be much easier. its plenty time till next winter.
but still would want to tackle this problem somehow, does it has sensor related to it on steering column?

Sensor on the steering column? Well, yes...
Later 406's have a combined assembly for all the stalks etc. called a Com2000, which are always expensive to replace and cars with ESP have the most complex / expensive variant of all. (try searching for COM2000 on here).
Be worth your while checking everything else out first and possibly getting a diagnostics session.
(Remember seeing the car advertised a few months back - how much did the turbo cost you, (if you don't mind me asking))?

I had the ESP light come on with my 407, turned out to be ABS sensor fault.

Are we referring to the one up Tyne & Wear that was relisted twice due to non payment, and the buyers losing their deposit because of this
The one with the Tan interior?

Sounds like you got a bargain there, if it only 'owes' you £700 or so.
