Hi there !! turbo's dont just come on they spin all the time , they start
to produce useable boost at a certain rpm and go on till this runs out at
about 3/3500 rpm as steve says . What exactly happens at 3000 ?? do what
steve said and check solenoid also all other pipework connected to turbo .

I read elsewhere if the hose clips securing the pipes to the turbo start to fail, obviously they don't seal properly, and you lose boost pressure, yet won't throw up a fault code
Can't remember what it is, but isn't there an increase in fuelling at around 3000, or 3200, and maybe that's compensating making you feel there is power after this level

Thus as puggy said, check all pipework to turbo and make sure clips are working

thanks all
solenoids seem fine turbo doesnt kickin at all if i disconect the solenoid.
1st gear just drives like a diesel with no turbo 2nd gear it pulls a bit better after 3200rpm 3rd gear pulls like i think it should at 3000 4th gear same all the way upto 90.
dont have access to another airflow meter without buying 1. should it run worse if i disconect it?
need to put it on ramps to check for leaks etc will do in next couple ove days

also found a problem with the injectors today top of the engine has puddles ov diesel a couple were leaking so i have took them all out to clean and put new washers and seals on. could this be the problem with the power loss?

thanks again for the help

I'd have thought you'd get fuel pressure warnings before there was enough loss to cause performance issues. Can't hurt to sort it though.

Maybe the vacuum pump (on the RHS of the cam cover) is not producing enough vacuum, or the air lines are leaking and the turbo's dumping boost with an open waste gate.

With the engine running, pump the brakes hard until the pedal goes solid.....then keep the pressure on and you should feel it sink down a bit as the vacuum is restored....if it seems to go solid rather quickly and won't release very well then the vacuum system is slow (the turbo get's dumped in favour of some brakes).

This is not my definite diagnosis but something well worth looking at. The standard HDi boosts strongly from 1800 to 2800 rpm then it's game over. The 'surge' over 3000 rpm you report may well just be the additional fuelling effect.

took the intercooler top pipe of today to see if turbo is boosting and seems to be. i also took the injectors out cleaned them and put new seals as they were all leaking over the engine. now not leaking it seems a little better so im wondering if i have low fuel pressure somewere. does anyone no how i can check the low pressure pump and the high pressure pump?
thanks matt

The low pressure pump in the tank is known to crap out at around 120K miles but it won't affect engine performance rather it won't let the thing start! they tend to sound really grumbly and heavy (when wearing out) when you first go to ignition - new ones sound really sweet and 'light'.

The high pressure pump can only really be checked using live data from the fuel rail pressure sensor through the diagnostic port - a healthy pump will give a steady 298 bar at idle rising to over 1000 bar when revved

I'm not sure what you need to read the ECU to be honest (I don't have a Peugeot anymore) but there's plenty on here who'd know.

PP2000's the surest solution - about £110 ish nowadays for an eBay clone - search for 'Lexia 3'

Alternatively, add your location - someone nearby might help.....

(particularly if it happens to be Stamford and you're only 15 miles away).
