Just changed 3 out of 4 glow plugs on my 1998 1.9TD, 2 were dead and one checked out ok but changed it anyway, but can't get to the last one hidden under the fuel pump, it's been checked out and is also NG
Any one have any suggestions how to get to it? I can't even get a spanner or socket in there to remove the supply cable!
Apart from removing the pump, which I'm not keen on doing, I can't see how to get to it.

Remove the injector pipes, you got more room then.

Haha, XUD glow plugs.. Don't get me started!
Me and my dad ended up changing just 3 out of the 4 but then on my own I changed the fourth one as well - I used a rubber pipe, a really small diameter one, don't remember what exactly. Put it over the end of the plug and started rotating, gave it a tug before that with a pair of pliers then didn't fit the new one as tightly. Good luck on your adventure!

not quite sure what you're getting at here, how's a rubber pipe and/or a tug with a pair of pliers going to turn a plug that is screwed tightly into the cylinder head? I had to use a 6 inch tube on the end of my socket wrench to turn the other 3ToddM wrote:I used a rubber pipe, a really small diameter one, don't remember what exactly. Access is the main problem as far as I can see.
Re: Changing glow plugs..
how do you know its no good without removing it?
Re: Changing glow plugs..
Because with the power cable disconnected from the other 3 glow plugs it is possible to get the leads from a multimeter on to the length of cable attached to the remaining glow plug terminal and the glow plug body, and check it's resistance, in this case off the scale hence open circuit glow plug therefore no glow.omega wrote:how do you know its no good without removing it?
