HI Guys,
I'm thinkng of performing a diy remap (kit off ebay) just wondering if it is simple-has anyone done it? and also will it be suitable, my car is one of the first hdi's (i think) on a 99 t plate. i'm looking more towards economy than power but hey if they come together then everyones a winner!
The reason my remark earlier (early hdi) was due to a garage telling me catargoically that my car must be a turbo diesel not hdi because peugeot didn't introduce them till 2000- apparantly!. Did make me smile when the garage in question had ordered wrong parts before i took the car in....even after i told the bloody mechanic it says hdi on the boot>>> this is one reason i'm looking to do all work myself on my car, i seem to know more about it than the garage.
Anyway your advice on mapping etc would be much appreciated as it always is.
The remap is a good way forward.
but its not something id try my self. you couid potentialy kill your ecu if it goes wrong!
your gamble tho good luck if you try it.

Ask someone who already remapped his ECU (on the same engine) for the map, the copy it to the ECU with the very cheap Galletto 1260.

Good idea in principle, but be aware there are several different hardware / firmware setups for 110's and it's unlikely to work unless it comes from a car of about the same age - even then, it's not gauranteed.
Seems more straightforward with 2.2's which only appear to have 2 variants

2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

this has been mentioned a few times before and i think the answer was something along the lines of "bugger off its too much like hard work" and an Admin has to do it, Mods dont have enough authority to do the required changes in the system, i think even mention of the Overlord himself Nick having to be involved was floated around last time the issue was pushed.
Thanks as ever for the advice, Think I might have to stump up and pay a bit more for a pro job, (although it does worry me that they'll just use the ebay files!!!)

Just a quick muppet question tho before i depart- if i did it(ecu remap) and fried my ecu can i just replace ecu with same model from a srapper? or does that cause problems?
You'd probably need the ecu, BSI, keys & transponder, (which others have swapped as a set), or get the ecu 'paired' with the BSI / unlocked using PP2000, (which it looks like you can do, but no-one has so far, AFAIK).
So, yes, recoverable, but still best avoided.
Personally I wouldn't give up hope on finding someone willing to 'share' their file.

Yeah I have done it with Galletto cables. Got the file from here. You need to read your existing map first to see what hardware/software version you have.
That said, I reverted back to my original map, as although the new file works very well (powaaaah!), it smokes like hell and tends to shudder if you boot it from lower revs in a higher gear.
I think doing to professionally would work better than a generic one off the web. Most places have a money-back guarantee if you don't like it (i.e. smokes/shudders/etc.)
