Hi Lozz

ive got exactly the same problem. I did the lower engine mount bodge with bits of rubber and instant gasket. Now its started moving about again. I don't think theres any way round this the driveshaft has to come out and the old mount has to be pressed out then the new one in.

There was an old post on here about 4 months ago before about it and someone said there was a powerflex lower engine mount that was in two parts yellow polyurethane that fits a 306 and he reckoned it would fit a 406 same sort of casinh for the lower engine mount. Because it was in two halves you could get the old mount out and then just slide this new one in without using a press. Might be worth doing a search on here for lower engine mount to see if he did a follow up and whether it worked or not. I would be interested as well otherwise i'll have to buy a three leg puller soon to get the driveshaft out.
Thanks

You don't need a three leg puller to take the driveshaft out.

You can remove the whole bracket with the drive shaft in, take the o\s wheel off & remove wheel arch liners, put a jack under the engine & unbolt it. It is a fiddle to get it out.
Use a large lump hammer to knock the bush out and fit the new one, dont be shy it needs lots of brute force!

Okay So theres no need for any sort of puller to get the driveshaft out? Thats a relief as i thought i'd have to spend more money out.Is it a good idea to replace the intermediate bearing on the driveshaft when you do the lower mount?

Absolutely untrue....you cannot remove the bracket without removing the driveshaft....you can unbolt it from the engine but the driveshaft has to come out to be able to remove it.

No need to replace the bearing at all.

You only need remove the driveshaft nut, bottom ball joint from the bottom arm, then undo the 2 x 11mm nuts and the 2 bolts holding the bearing into the carrier (the lower mounting carrier).

Remove the driveshaft, unbolt the lower engine mounting from the subframe and mounting carrier, then unbolt the carrier from the engine.

Stick the carrier in a vice, push out the rubber bits, cut a slot in the steel casing of the mounting and knock out the steel ring.(Or push it out with a press.)

Using some course production paper (40 grade) clean out the inside of the mounting carrier and clean the outside of the new mounting.

Grease up the carrier and the mounting and either press it in with a hydraulic press, if you have access to one, or knock the new mounting into the housing and press the new one in with a vice, making sure to keep the mounting going in straight....gentle persuation with a hammer will help.

Make sure you line up the thick rubber bits on the mounting as they came out of the inner part.

Refit the carrier to the engine, refit the driveshaft, the 2 bolts for the bearing and the ball joint, not forgetting the driveshaft nut.

Forgot to add....make sure you have a clean container to catch the oil from the gearbox, so that you can put it back in afterwards :D

Thanks, all,
your spot on jasper, the Drive shaft has to be Removed to Get the carrier off,
was going to Remove it but ilike a Challenge

Took me 25 mins of Messing about but igot it out,
Brute Force ? lol tried that didnt work, problem is the Bush housing the Metal part not the cast alloy, theres not much of a lip
so your chizeling at mms not much there before your against the Alloy mount,

A Thin and very long pointy chizzel is needed, (Fire poker type weapon needed :frown: )

itried Burning it out too no joy,
in the end ijust cut 2 slots one at 6oclock and one @ 12 oclock and knocked on side out
the other just fell out, putting the new one back in was a doddle it just slid in,

the New mount igot says its for a Jumpy whats one of thems?
another thing inoticed was the old bush wasnt totaly round on the inside it looked like it had been Squashed in a vice (Preasure points)

End result is good engine is less noisy but ithink the other mount (Gearbox End ) as some play, so il replace that one now me thinks,
are these easy to change ?

Ah iknow which bracket your Refering to, the Black one that Takes the Sway of the engine, ?
yup thats fiddly to get out , ihad to put a bar in between the sump and the mount and waddle it out,

Having the Engine suported on the Trolley jack was as much use as a Choclate tea pot, :?
