2.0 turbo on super unleaded?

Hi

I got my 2.0 turbo on the road the other day and was really impressed by how well it went, now 1 week later and it's not seeming quite as impressive. Now either I've got used to the power or it's because I'm now using regular unleaded when before I was using super unleaded.

Does anyone feel any difference between using super and regular? Could this be the cause of the car not feeling as nippy?

Cheers, Dave.

Probably placebo affect to be honest. Super doesn't do that much apart from keep the injectors cleaner.

Super Unleaded has a higher Octane rating and lets the car run advanced ignition (where it would have to retard ignition on Unleaded to stop pinking) so generally the car should feel a bit more lively with better throttle response.

A test was run once on a Subaru 2.0 turbo and ran approx 20 bhp more on V-Power but this is an extreme example and 'lesser' cars ran 2 to 8 bhp more.

Don't discount the small benefits just yet though as Super Unleaded does guard against pinking/knock and can pay for itself with better MPG's.

totally agree with teh last post - i have a rare 2.016v HPi Engine and it does pink a bit on unleaded, much better of VPower, but economy not much improved.

Cheers for the replies. I'll give it a go on super and see if it performs any better, won't be just yet though as I'm driving sensibly to see how many mpg I get. Interesting about that Scooby though

I found that momentum (which is allegedly 99 RON) does increase power- as for fuel economy- I haven't quite worked out how to operate the throttle unless I work by the rules of boolean logic. On or Off... :D

Did a comparison- BP super unleaded which is 97er against total 95er (which was fittingly total crap in comparison)

The ass-against-seat dynamo read a good inch wider on the grin-width-scale

So THERE :) :) :)

There are a lot of different opinions on Super, but truth be told it entirely depends on the engine. Turbo engines tend to benefit a lot more, but primarily torque is improved rather than bhp. A lot of other factors come into play as well, particuarly outside air temperature. On a hot day the engine may feel a lot more reluctant.

i feel a lot of difference adding crapy diesel ( which is from the supermarket usually) and the Ultra extreme diesel which is more expensive ... with the ultimate diesel i feel the car is more smooth and it gives more power to him ...
