Peugeot 405 CamBelt Change (Petrol)

hiya... i know its NOT a 406... but i thought you guys may still be able to help...

got to change a cambelt on a 1997 peugeot 405 GLX estate 2ltr petrol automatic with aircon xu10j2 engine.

just wondering if anyone could provide any tips for this job please, i.e can you lock the crank and cam..?

You need the crank locking tool that fits into the flywheel teeth and bolts to the block.

You need to turn the crank until the timing holes in the cam pulley and crank pulleys line up then fit pins into the cam and crankshaft pulley, make sure the crank pulley hole that you fit a pin into is the correct one as some pulleys have more than one hole.

Then you lock the crank with the tool I mentioned above, now you can undo the crank pulley bolt, remove the crank pin and the pulley, I would mark the teeth on the cam and the crank pulley where the belt fits onto, then remove the belt and refit it.

I've simplified the description, but can give you a detailed how-to if you need it.

It doesn't look too difficult a job.

sounds like the 306 set up...? ive done a couple of them so hopefully should be ok :)
