Can some kind person tell me exactly where the engine block drain plug is please on a 2.0 hdi 110? I am renewing the anti-freeze and have
removed the air filter housing (for access to thermostat) but I still can't see it. Is it a screw nut that has to be unscrewed with spanner
or socket? I can see a black round plastic type plug but I think that may belong to the clutch housing and I do not want to do the wrong thing.
In any case is it really necessary to open the block drain plug (wherever it is) so as to fully drain the engine block before flushing it? Or is removing the thermostat
housing for a flush with water in via the top house coming out the bottom hose (method as per Haynes manual) sufficient?

If you look down behind the radiator there is a drain tap there. there is one at the top as well which helps let air in and aids re-filling. Circular thing you can undo by turning the knurled knob. this helps when flushing the rad as well.

Thanks for that Mark. There is no rad drain plug on my particular 04 model so I removed the bottom hose. Also I have
identified the knurled headed knob to which you refer.

What I was getting at was the engine drain plug theoretically located near the back of the engine block, the purpose of which
is to facilitate drainage of the small residue of coolant which remains in the block passageways even after fully draining the rad.
Trouble is I cannot find it!

It's fine to leave it, very few drain it via that as its too hard to get too. Some just pull the hose off the water pump because its that hard to get to undo.

Thanks for that lee. I am sure you are right about not bothering with the drain plug. Clearly if you cannot find it you have little option!
Being a conscientious type, I was only going by the Haynes manual which is poor at explaining the precise location. You have to wonder
sometimes about the automotive designers who seem to make access to key components so very difficult. Or maybe its' just to make life
as difficult as possible for the DIY man. (Fortunately as can be seen from this website there is a great collective determination and enthusiasm
to overcome these obstacles.)
