Reverse Gear

Its ages since I've been in here, but I'm hoping one of the boys can help.
I have a 2001 1.9 GLE man. est. and I cannot lift the gear stick and put it in reverse, I have
been having trouble for a while now, but on the week-end it would not go in.
I searched through all the threads but could not find any mention of the same fault.
