Gearshift Cables

Ever since I got it, the gearshift on my car has been ok, but not as nice as I remember it being when I had a GLX which was only 3 years old. The worst of it is that sometimes it can be a bit notchy changing down into 4th & 3rd after a motorway run. I'm hoping that this is just the cable linkage as it is over 10 years old now. How much are they & how much of a job are they to change? Can't seem to find them on Servicebox.

It might be worth a gearbox oil change first.

Think it had one yesterday when the driver's side driveshaft got changed. Stick is a little wobbly when in gear. Not a massive amount, maybe half inch of movement, but Mum's Mondeo had a lot less movement in it when I was using it yesterday.

Think? They might just have topped it up, especially if you told them they're doing the other driveshaft soon.

There's a few variables so you'll need your vin: Mechanical -> Gearbox assembly -> manual control -> GEAR CHANGE CONTROL GEAR BOX SIDE

Cheers Stev. Will check that out tomorrow when I've got the VIN in front of me. Any ideas on how much of a job it is? Probably going to get the guy that's doing the driveshafts to do it at a later date, but if it's going to be expensive I might save the pennies for a while first.

Now I have more time... I reckon yours has the ML5T still, before the RPO so.. the two cables are about 70 quid for one and 80 for t'other   There's also a few clips and stuff you might want to investigate. I reckon the hardest part of changing them would be removing the exhaust but there might be enough movement to swing it down & out the way.

If it's a C the cables aren't available separately and the whole thing with the gear stick and gubbins costs a modest 173.45. Oh, I'll have a dozen

Finally got round to checking Servicebox. " cables are about £80 & £70, but there's also a repair kit for just under £100. Thing is though, it looks like it's just a clip & a couple of bits of plastic. Is this something that would need to be bought to change the cables:
