P reg 2.2 glx

Over the last few months I've been getting several weird problems.
1,The speedo has been waving from road speed to zero. Sometimes not registering at all. Power steering goes light.
2, Engine rev's at will.
3, On overrun, ie, foot off pedal, engine misses.

At a guess this is in the wrong section. Electrics? Who knows? Any help appreciated.

I'm not familiar with that engine, however I bet you have a speedo sensor on the diff housing of the gearbox. I've fixed this issue before on a 1.8 simply by unplugging the sensor, spraying some WD40 on it then plugging/unplugging it loads of times to give it a good clean. Other people have had to replace the sensor. Your power steering most likely adjusts to the road speed, so if your speedo isn't working, it will cause problems there.

I don't know about the engine problem, a stab in the dark might suggest the idle stepper motor? Again, I had bouncing revs on the 1.8, fixed by cleaning up the idle stepper as per the sticky in here.

Fingers crossed all is resolved with some WD40

It could also be the speedo sensor - if the engine ecu is getting some weird signals from it, it might not know what the feck it's meant to be doing with the engine.

Worth sorting out first in case it's exacerbating another problem.
