Hi All

First post here and I am hoping that Dogslife may be able to assist with De Fapping a file for me. As i am new here I am not able to PM him. I have read the file from the ECU with a flash cable so already have the original file.

Hi Derrick & welcome.

I think you only need to get two posts approved by the mods, then you're up & running, so post a reply to this & you should be OK to PM.

Should be able to modify the file for you.

Possibly, although I guess this might happen anyway so if you write it on the forum it might stop them actually having to ask.

Damn, looks like I won't be the first to get a 180bhp C5. Maybe by the time I do get another one, I'll pick up a later 170bhp version & aim for 200 instead...

I can almost certainly delete the dpf, but I can't alter the power. Mind you, a de-fapped twin turbo would be a first, AFAIK.

I don't know, now somebody has a C5 file to send you, it may turn out to be the same as the 406 one. Probably not though.

Did notice that the later C5s are getting cheaper now. There was a 57 plate 1.6 HDi estate at a local garage with under 70k at £5000 & a couple of 2.2s nationwide at the same price, but slightly older. There's already a few 2.0 136 models under £3000 now. The trick will be finding a 2.2 170 with a manual gearbox.

Which 406 one, (there appear to be at least three different & incompatible versions, just for manual 2.2 406 HDi's).

Thanks for your efforts with this, but there is an issue somewhere. I loaded the DeFap file this morning, all appeared to be ok, but the car would not start, could not communicate with the ECU with Lexia nor the flash cable. I was able to flash the original file using the Boot pin method, and it starts and runs again. Is the check sum meant to be the same number, as the original file ? anyway at least I was able to recover the situation, the heart rate is only just starting to come back to normal this afternoon.

Any idea's or thoughts on the issue would be most welcomed.

Is it possible the download process was interupted or did not terminate properly?

(If this happens you could get the behaviour you describe with any file, including the original).

The checksum will be different - it can only be the same if the two files are identical.

The de-fap conversion ran through normally and I checked the original and modified files were different.

When I first attempted a conversion of a 406 file, I was fortunate in having pre-prepared examples with & without FAP, so was able to verify 'my' deFAP versions exactly matched those produced by others, including the one my car's running. I therefore think the process is sound, but not having a C5, I have no way of proving your file is OK.

The only other test I can think of is to repeat the conversion of your original several times & verify the generated de-FAP versions are identical - I will do that this evening & let you know the outcome.

I've heard of the 'Boot pin method' but don't know how to do it - any information you have would be gratefully received.

Again, thanks for the time on this. I did retry the down load three times all with the same result of no start, but the original file went in each time without issue using boot pin, so I think it is something with the file ?

Re-checked everything, but no errors found. I've sent you some further examples in case something got corrupted 'in the post'.
