Peugeot boxes are sensitive to the oil they use.
I had a clunky 3rd gear, no amount of oil changes/treatments sorted it. Went back to Peugeots oil and it was damm near perfect again!
Juyst go buy peugeot oil, it's cheap too from what I remember.

I'm not sure what sort of effect the heavier oil will have as it's GL5 but, from experience, you'll probably have trouble getting it into gear when the 'box is cold and you could bend stuff trying to make it go into gear. Best do as Bailes says, the price of oil in the dealer's is, amazingly, cheap. As cheap as a car factor's anyway.

I know the ML5s take 75W80W but I don't know about BEs. Edit: D9 Haynes says the same.

its over £8 a litre at the main dealers iirc.
bought somefrom them when ihad the box Rebuilt on the old 406.

not to bad if you only need a litre but if you need a few litres works out abit expensive imho,

the stuff sold at Wilkinsons is a simalar grade/spec, Make Coma, £2.99 alitre iwill be using that from now on in french cars ithink,

£8 a litre is cheap... considering the price of a new gearbox and labour charges changing it .....

Why u replacing ur g/box oil? It doesn't need it. If ur finding it difficult selecting a gear then it's most likely the syncro or somethin that oil won't cure. When I 1st got my car I wondered the sAme til about 10 mechanics plus pug mechanic told me iwas just gonna waste money
