camshaft/timing belt

After what sounded like some pinking from under my bonnet, my engine died and it appeared the timing belt had given up. After removing all the covers and rocker box to check the cams/valves etc it turns out the camshaft is stuck solid. This seems to be why the timing belt snapped and it absolutely will not budge. We couldn't fully remove the rocker box as it was catching on the inlet manifold although it may just be we aren't jiggling it the right way?? Anyway, does anybody have any idea what the likely cause of the problem is and any possible solutions? Cheers

1.9TD LX
Could have been a blocked oil feed

It's not locked solid due to the valves being embedded in the pistons is it? Whatever the cause I guess your engine is toast

God knows how it happened but i've sheared the camshaft in 2 places! Eventually got it out in 3 pieces! Bearings were fine, never seen anything like it.

I've had this before, not that unusual....the timing belt broke first...the valves will be bent but hopefully everything else will be fine.

Should be able to drop in another cam and give it a new belt a start it up.
These are "straight" not "angled" interference engines, although the valves DO hit the pistons, they do it "flat to flat". The valves don't usually bend, they just transfer the impact from the piston into the cam, snapping it.

I hope you are right for the OP's sake. but every one I've had have broken the camshaft and bent the valves.
