My newly aquired 2003 hdi 110 estate seems a bit down on power compared to my 2002 Rapier 110 i just sold,it goes o.k. but not as good as my old one and it isn't as economical (according to the mfd readout),i'm going to start checking stuff out but what are the symptoms of a dodgy maf sensor and how can i check if it's working correctly?

Try disconnecting the MAf and taking the car for a drive to see if it feels different, had to do this last night to the girlfriends 307 as the power was flat until the turbo kicked in, after disconnecting it was flying round again, MAF doesn't often flag faults which make it a bit more difficult to diagnose

Good question grasmere, is there a test method out there?
I have a 1500rpm 'flat spot' on my 90 which I am trying to get to the bottom of.
MAF connected or disconnected car seems exactly the same, is that right?
I have cleaned the MAF with injector cleaner, though it didn't really need it.

There should be a significant difference when disconnecting the, if it the same or there is an improvement when disconnecting I would think there is an issue with it.

My old maf was the same performance connected and disconnected so i bought a new on still the same power is great though car never lacks it but i have the same flat spot god knows why my 110 holds the revs when changing gear to keep it smooth but my 90 doesnt now sure if its the TPS or EGR could be anything on these damn things. I was told that if the maf is disconnected and the performance is the same then its working but how true that is i dont know.
