Wanting more power. 2.2 HDI Wagon

Post by senate »

Hey everyone,
I'm after a more power from my 2002 2.2 HDI wagon, and I am wanting to know if those ebay tuning boxes can be trusted?
Or should I be looking at other options, like the DIY remaps I've read about? How easy are they to do?
Getting the galletto 1260 isn't a problem obviously, but everything that comes after that is a bit of a grey area to myself,
who really doesn't have too much experience in this kind of area.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers, Tim.

Before you go wasting your money on tuning boxes, have a good long read of this:

Our Doggy is usually happy to help & he'll probably be along shortly. If you live anywhere near Gloucestershire, there's a guy on the coupe forum that has made it his mission to get rid of as many FAPs as possible.

ebay tuning boxes dont waste your cash .

a remap should see 162bhp . (some say 180bhp but i doubt a remap giving 40bhp more) ive searched web and only see the 2.2 hdi going to 162bhp ...

usually adds 20 bhp .

Thanks for the replies guys!

waue1978 - that thread is exactly what I'm after, thank you for linking me to that. Unfortunately I'm pretty far away from Gloucestershire, I'm in Melbourne, Australia :)

Hi Tim & Welcome to the forum. 8)

I have a de-FAPped / re-mapped 2.2 HDi 'wagon' and can help you with your search for more power. Most 2.2 owners also want to rid themselves of the diesel particle filter, (FAP), which you may, or may not want to do.

If you can PM me a direct e-mail address, I can send you some more info.

Here's an example of what's possible, (not the setup I'm running, but it gives you an idea what's achievable).

2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

Alright, cable turned up this morning, got it to speak to the ECU with no issues, saved several copies of my map to various sources (luckily) and went about uploading the 180bhp map that I kindly received from Doggy, along with a few other maps.

Whilst uploading that map I heard a beep from the car and "Air bag fault" came up on the display screen, however the ECU finished downloading the new 180hp map with no sign of failure - went to turn on the car and "economy mode" came up on the display, and the car would not start, it would turn over but wouldn't actually fire up. So I decided to try out the "standard 2.2hdi" map (not my original one) and same problem. I uploaded my original map and everything was fine?

I'm fairly positive I followed the guide correctly, but maybe there's something I'm just not seeing?

Any help or advice will be greatly appreciated :cheesy:

Cheers guys.

Tim,

Sounds like those files don't suit your car. :?

As your car is a 2002, I assumed it was the later, 'fully multiplexed' design, introduced in Europe late 2001, but it may be the earlier architecture, which would explain the problem you're having.

Does yours have 'com2000' stalks, (cruise & audio controls are fixed & have rotary controls) or the earlier design, where the two small stalks move, like mini-indicator stalks?

(Can't find steve-earwig's post with how to find your build code). If you know how to find this 9001 is the changeover 'date'.

I'll send you some files for the earlier design. In the meantime, send me a copy of your original ecu file - at the very least I can convert this to 'no-FAP' for you. Won't make it quicker, but it potetially will save you money later.

Maybe Aussie spec is different, but I wouldn't have thought so,as these have worked in many European countries as well as the UK.

Yes it does have the fixed cruise and audio stalks, I'll email you a copy of the ECU file tomorrow, looking forward to seeing if the older files you send over work, getting this close to getting more power has just made me hungry for it! haha

Cheers Doggy :cheesy:
