"anti pollution system defective"

As posted,i started the car up this morning(2003 53 hdi 110 exec) and "bong" that came up on the mfd and the engine management light on,no limp mode and just done 50 miles with no problems,it seems a bit down on power but is seems like it has been since i bought it a 1000 miles a go,fuel consumption not as good as i think it should be,any ideas chaps?

i spoke to jasper about this when i was looking for a new car. cos the ones i viewed had this problem
it could be a number of things mate.
the only way to find out really is a diagnostic test to get the fault code.

Cheers Gary,next question is can you buy code readers/resetters and if so which are the best?

you just hear of the planet pug 2000 for pugs but im sure there are others on ebay which will do the same job ..

failing that a garage will charge about £40 to get the fault for you which i think is rediculous

Thats the problem,i had to get a chap out to reset the immobiliser on my old Rapier and as a "favour" as i lived on his way home he stoped it and done it, still charged me £40 in his hand,as i intend to keep the pug it mught be cost effective to buy a reset/reader gadget.

I called the AA and said it was down on power a bit with the eml on,AA chap has just been out and the codes were P0100 glowplug/heater circuit and P0380 mass air flow A circuit.He reset them and the light is now out.

He drove it with me as passenger for a 5 mile run and it stayed out so will suck it and see.

Well just drove 120 miles home and the light has stayed out,i'm hoping it was just a French electric glitch.
